Note on GP102 Phase Angle Voltmeter
|
|
Advanced DSP techniques yields
low cost, high performance Phase Angle Voltmeter
The Phase Angle Voltmeter (PAV), sometimes called a Phase Sensitive Voltmeter, has
been a key instrument for the measurement of complex AC component parameters.
Typical measurements include Phase Angle, In-Phase, Quadrature (90° component),
Fundamental and Total RMS. Until recently, there have been limited choices in the
marketplace for an accurate, high performance alternative. The advent of the GP102
PAV not only satisfies this need but provides many enhancements and additional
functions not previously available.
Typical applications for a PAV include Synchro/Resolver test, LVDT/RVDT test, AC
null measurement ratio, phase measurement, frequency selective amplifiers and
magnetic component testing, inertial gyro drift tests, etc. The GP102 is able to
display all these measurements simultaneously, on a bright multifunctional dot
matrix display.
Some typical drawbacks of traditional PAVs are limited frequency response, absence
of a built-in signal generator and high price. The GP102's built-in function generator
allows the user to dispense with an external source, the wide frequency response
allows true rms measurements from 10 mHz to 2 MHz. In addition to phase sensitive
ratio tests the GP102 is able to plot gain/phase curves over a selected frequency
range. For LVDT/RVDT measurements, the unit can display position directly in addition
to standard phase sensitive ratio measurements. A high degree of harmonic, noise and
common mode rejection makes it an ideal instrument for positional control PAV applications.
The GP102 is available in upright and 19" 2U rack formats, printer and RS232
interfaces are standard with an optional GPIB/IEEE-488 interface. Available software
drivers and PC applications add to the instrument's versatility.
